Sharon Williams Matthews
An artmaker from her earliest years, Sharon first created detailed teaching manipulatives for use in her mother’s Chicago public school primary grade classroom while still in elementary school herself; she embraced every artform she was introduced to over the years, from photography to painting to sculpture.
Sharon studied her craft locally at the Corcoran School of Art and Design, Montgomery College and finally receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art from the University of Maryland College Park and then a Masters in Art Education certified too teach literacy and math through art.
While at UMD, for her own art, she specialized in printmaking and sculpture, where the themes of her work were inspired by art history, African American culture and identity, as well as color theory.
She continues to make art in her own studio which she calls, The Just Make Art Studio. Inspired by her late husband who used to say, happy or sad, just make art.
