I create nonobjective paintings using acrylic, ink, and their combination on watercolor paper, Yupo synthetic paper, and canvas. On heavier papers and canvas--gesso, molding paste, pumice gel, collage of paper, fabric, and objects create three-dimensionality. On lighter papers--overlays of transparent paint give a feeling of depth. I am more interested in color and line than in value and shape, which may explain why I so often combine acrylic and ink in my works. Much of my work involves pouring liquified acrylics onto superwet surfaces. Rather than trying to recreate nature, I let nature participate in the creative process by the way paint and ink soak into the fibers of paper and the way they flow and combine as they seek out lower spots in the not-perfectly-flat surface.
