Biography

My husband and I moved to the more affordable Hyattsville from Takoma Park in 1976. We raised our family here. My children attended Thomas Pullen K-8 arts magnet school; my daughter went on to the Suitland High School arts program. With other Hyattsville parents, I co-founded the Friends of Pullen charitable organization to raise funds for the design and construction of a performing arts center at the school. Disappointingly, the project did not reach the construction phase. My college studies at UMCP focused on Historic Textiles and Costume, Sociology, and American Studies. The projects I worked on throughout my 42 year career at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History frequently drew from the textile and costume collections to tell untold stories of women, families, and people of color. My crafts include fiber arts (small quilting projects, costumes and clothing) and mosaics. I want to create auto-biographical memory stories in fabric, and hope to learn how to embellish appliquéd pictures with embroidery, beading, etc. I intend to remain in my home as I age, for the long time relationships with friends and neighbors are too precious to leave behind.
